In slasher horror films the killer often has a story behind what they are doing. As we have a killer in our teaser trailer it is important to create a back story to show how they have become that way and this can be done in a short trailer by showing clues and flashbacks of the killers life.
In Texas Chainsaw Massacre the killer is known as Leatherface and this character has been used throughout the franchise. Although the story if fictional the character of Leatherface is known to be inspired by the crimes of the real life murderer Ed Gein who wore a humans scalp and face as a mask similar to Leatherface. It is also known that the gruesome contents inside Leatherface's house were similar of those to Ed Gein's. However, Ed Gein did not use a chainsaw therefore only a few parts were based on his story.
Leatherface's character does not speak although he does make vocal sounds. He is also a cannibal.
The mask is used to hide his facial disfigurement. The character is ridiculed and misunderstood by his peers which causes him to become this way and be psychologically damaged.
In the original series Leatherface's family use the bones of animals and people he kills to create the inside of their house. They sell the victims flesh at a restruant/gas station for unsuspecting people to eat.
As there have been many remakes and sequels the story behind the character varies.
Evaluation
This character has more of a complex back story and due to our teaser trailer only being 60 seconds it would be hard to show a full back story. However, we may give away clues and small details which would be revealed if we were making a full film.
