The Logo:

Blum House Logo
  • The logo uses Dark colours, such as blacks and greens, commonly associated with the Horror genre.
  • The logo itself is situated in the corner of an old, uncared-for room, a common location for horror films, particularly slasher horror.
  • There is a House featured behind the title, which could be representative of the supernatural sub-genre in terms of haunted houses.
  • There is a dim light bulb hanging from the ceiling of the room, creating a eerie glow in terms of lighting in the animated room.
  • In terms of typography, the crumbly, textured effect used is unnatural looking which corresponds to the unnatural characters often portrayed in such horror films. For example, the protagonists are often twisted and disoriented, represented by the fragmented and crumbled looking background.

The Sequence:

Firstly, the sequence begins with the camera panning the room, whereby we see a door open on its own with the light shining through, and later we see objects flying and moving around on their own (as indicated below). This represents the supernatural and paranormal sub-genre of the horror genre, which Blum House Productions is famous for producing. The walls are dirty looking, with what appears to be blood stains up the walls, commonly associated with the Slasher genre. Since this production company only produce horror films, the sequence is greatly related to the genre, which immediately unsettles the audience and creates the eerie, tense atmosphere for the remainder of the movie.

The chairs and objects which are flying around in the screenshot attached above also suggest possession and paranormal occurrences, which plays on the fears of the audience as many people fear the unknown, such as what is causing the objects to move.

Next, we get a glimpse of a girl moving across the screen, as indicated in the images above and below. In the first example, the girl appears to be glowing, suggesting ghost or possession, which again adheres to the type of genre which Blum House produces. The fact that the character is a young girl also plays on audience's fears as one of the common trends in current horror films is the possession of young children; since the target audience is often young adults and over, it creates a sense of realism for those who have their own children as it 'could happen' to them.

In the screenshot above, we get the fist brief look at the girl's face, which is shadowed by lighting, keeping most of it hidden and making the eyes look hollowed out. This creates an unnatural look of the character, suggesting something is not quite right with her, much like for many characters present in different horror films, particularly paranormal or supernatural.

The image above shows a close up of the grungy, dirty looking wall of the room used in the sequence, with the blood-like stain featured also. As mentioned, the blood stain could be associated with the slasher-horror sub-genre, providing and indication as to what types of movies they produce and thus, what the pending movie could be about also. The fact that the sequence is set in a small, dark and enclosed room also plays on the audience's fears as many horror films, particularly slasher horror, often take place in similar locations.

Finally, the sequence ends on the corner of the room, whereby the title and logo of the production company is situated; the typography and logo itself is explored above.
