Practical Task: Hair Removal

For this practical task, I created the illusion of having my own hair ripped out of my scalp using various different make-up materials and hair products. I recorded the entire process using a video camera and then edited the footage using Final Cut Pro. The video included below shows the final footage of my hair removing practical.

Practical Task:

Evaluation:

  • The blend of different make-up created a successful illusion of the damaged scalp, making the final product look more realistic.
  • The hair from the wig used greatly resembled my own hair, meaning that once the hair had been removed, the end result was still accurate and authentic looking.
  • In terms of improvements, due to the high definition of the camera, if this example of special effects were to be used in the final trailer, there is the possibility that the close-up of the 'wound' would not be as realistic.
Overall, using limited resources I had at home, I was still able to produce realistic and successful special effects; the time-lapse video attached above clearly details the process I used and the success of the end result.
