Practical- Editing techniques

Fast and slow motion editing

I decided that I wanted to fast and slow motion editing to see whether or not it would be useful in our final slasher horror opening.

I also decided that I needed to film something that would change over a period of time. To do this I decided to fill a glass with black currant then I would be able to edit it. This is what the first clip looked like:

I then chose to try slow motion first. I had to cut the video to make sure the jug couldn't be seen pouring the water into the glass. I chose to use Windows Movie Maker as I was familiar with this software. I found that there were a different range of speeds you could use to speed up and slow down the clip.

I decided to try slow motion first I tried different speeds to see which one I preferred. This was the first speed I tried:

I thought that this was too slow and took too long so I cut the video and choose one speed faster. This is what the final video looked like:

Next I wanted to try fast motion as this is also commonly seen in the horror genre.

Evaluation
  • This is not to complex to use.
  • This editing technique is commonly used in the horror genre.
  • It can be used on a variety of different clips.
