Deconstruction of Killers lair

The majority of our teaser trailer will take place in the killers lair so I thought that I would look at other films to see what mise-en-scene they use and the layout of the lair.

Pretty Little Liars
In Pretty Little Liars, A has a lair which is also an apartment. It is filled with photos and computers which he uses to stalk his victim.


Within the lair there are several photo boards which include photos of the victim and people involved in the victims lives.
Not only are there photos on the board but there is also lots of information next to the pictures as well as documents. This board also shows lines drawn between different pictures to show a link between the photos and the main photo in the middle is the largest suggesting that all the information revolves around this one person.

This board shows more organised as it has been put into sections according to specific people. It also has labels used for more information. There are also a series of smaller pictures dotted around the board.

In addition to the boards there are also computers in the room suggesting that a lot of planning has gone into the stalking. The lair is also well organised and clean which is unusual for a killers lair.

Another lair in Pretty Little Lairs shows pictures of the victims all over the walls. Also there are several images of the same person in one area. Several of the photos are in black and white and maps can also be seen suggesting that he has plotted the places of where the victims live or commonly go.

                          

There are photos of one girl on what looks like to be a mirror and below there are several scrolls which may contain more information on the victim. On the other side of the room there are several old mobile phones and tools which all add to the mise-en-scene of the lair. Overall, the room does not look crowded but the walls do.

                          

Evaluation

• Large boards are covered in photos of the victim and people the victim may know
• There is also information on the boards
• The lairs are not crowded and are organised
• Other mise-en-scene include desks, tools, computers and phones
