Advertisement Inspiration- Website

Our website has a design based on YouTube so I am creating an advertisement that can normally be seen in the top right corner of the YouTube website as shown below.

The advertisement should follow the genre of our trailer which is slasher horror. So we decided that it should be for a horror experience. To look for inspiration I found some horror experiences at Universal and looked at the posters, The posters all involve people as on the experiences people are often dressed up to scare the visitors. The images themselves show gore or masked killers which make the genre and target audience clear. Another common feature of the posters was that the themes were based around horror films/series such as The Purge and Walking Dead and the text was placed at the bottom and the top of the poster so that the image can be seen clearly.

                  

The colours involved are dark and gloomy and the text is in Serif whereas the film/series names are in Sans Serif. In order to see the text against the dark backgrounds the colour white or red is often used. 

At the bottom of the poster small text is used with the name of the company and stating that it is all rights reserved along with this there are a few logos such as the production company of the film/series and the Universal logo.

YouTube ads are often selling a product and entice the audience to click on them to view the website. Therefore, on my ad I will add 'tickets are available now' to make it similar to normal advertisements where viewers have to click the ad in order to buy the tickets and see other specific details such as the exact dates of the event and where it is taking place. This then means that the ad does not need to be overloaded with information and a few key points can be shown.

Evaluation

I think that the main image needs to link to the slasher horror genre in order to convey the genre clearly and show that this is for a specific audience (fans of horror). The poster should be the same genre as our trailer which is slasher horror.

Minimal writing should be used therefore only the key points such as what the horror experience is based on (film/series) and what the actual event is, 'horror nights'. The month of the experience along with 'tickets are available now' would also be good to add to make it clear that this is an advertisement and not just a scary image. Finally, the bottom of the advertisement should have a few logos and some small writing such as 'terms and conditions apply' to add to the fact that this is an advertisement.

Editing ideas

• Throught the gore related scenes the editing is scene to increase in pace with the change of shot appearing more regually, as this is a film based on gore and slasher (much like ours) and this will be an interesting technique in which we can incorperate into our own work. The gore scenes showed very little further creating an enigma and inriging those who enjoy this genre of film. By not giving too much away the audience becomes interested and wants to watch more. 
• There is also an exesive amount of close ups to show the detail and highlighting the quality of the props that are used within the film. It also prevents the audience from seeing too much of the images. These close ups are mainly used during the scenes that include high amounts of gore.
• Longer and medium shots are mainly seen towards the begining with the theory of the equalibrium. During the period that everything appears to be calm and/or more relaxed there are different series of long shots and medium shots to help establish the scene and set where they are located
• During areas of high tention and sections in which they want to highten the suspence there are regular uses of black screens. This causes the audiene to feel uneasy while watching the trailer further highlighting the horror aspects. Not only this it also conveys the high pased action of a slasher film and creates the appearance that everything is happening very quickly. This is something that we will incorperate into our own piece as we want to increase the pace to highten the tention for the audience.
• The lighting throught the video is very dark, this is a common convention of all horror genres. However they use a white light to create a colder atmosphere in the background, this is in comparrison to a warmer and what would appear to be an orange light. The cold white light could be repressentative of the moon in this ituation due to the setting being ouside. The lighting is something that we will take in to consideration as it is a very important aspect of a film. The lighting can change the tone and the mood of the situation that the characters have found themselves in.

Inspiration- Make up wounds

 Fake cuts

• A common feature of slasher horror films are the fake cuts. They are often used during a fight scene when the killer uses a weapon to harm a victim. 
• In order to create this wound:

- Using paintbrush paint a thin layer of glue on your hand.
-Place some tissue on top of the layer of glue and add more glue and water to the tissue.
- Add two more layers of tissue and glue making each layer smaller every time. Wrinkle the tissue to give the cut a 3D realistic look.
- Once the glue has dried create a rip in the middle of the tissue layer.
- The next step is to paint the wound to make it look as if though it is bleeding. Make sure to blend the wound into the hand. This can be done by adding cocoa powder.

Fake bruises

 

• Another common use of make up is for bruising. Also, often caused by the killer to the victim.
• To create this:

- Apply black eye shadow lightly to the area you want to look bruised.
- Blend in some purple eye shadow to make the bruise look more realistic.
- Use some brown blush over the top of the bruise to finish off the look.


Fake burn

 

• Fake burns may also be seen in slasher horror films
• To create this effect:

- Outline the area you want your burn to be with a brown pen.
- Colour in the area you outlined with light red paint.
- Using black paint outline the area you just coloured in.
- Using a paintbrush slightly merge the black outline and the red together.
- Paint a white line down the middle of the wound and blend this in to give it a highlight.
-Outline the burn with liquid latex.
-As the latex dries paint on some fake blood inside the wound.
-Once the latex has dried roll back the edges slightly to give the wound some dimension and the wound is finished.



Evaluation

• Most of these wounds are easy to recreate and the materials are not hard to source. 
• They also help to clearly show the genre.
• Some wounds may take a longer time to create than others.
