Target Audience Deconstruction

To ensure that our teaser trailer and film appeals to our target market and audience, we can use reviews from existing horror movies to get an idea of which films are successful and see what makes the successful. I looked at the reviews on the popular critic website IMDb looking at horror films.

Saw Franchise

Saw is a poplar film franchise that has created multiple films under the same name, it is a slasher horror film and therefore is related to the sub-genre that we chose for our teaser trailer.
The films collecively grossed $873 million at the boxoffice wordwide. Making it one of the largest franchises and a very popular horror film.

This image is from the IMDb website looking at the first Saw film with 285,914 users rating the film through the site. The average out of 10 is 7.7 showing its popularity with such as vast audience.
We will encourperate some of the common codes and conventions from the Saw franchise, for example the torture, gore and enigma surrounding who the killer is. I will do this as they have a similar target audience as we want to attrack.

Hatchet (2006)

Hatchet is not as popular as the Saw franchise, however the film did earn three films in its name, this is a slasher and gore film once again relating to our genre choice. The first films grossing came to $7,109,436.

Once again I have included the rating people have given the film on IMDb, however there was only 22,740 people who chose to rate this film with an average of 5.7. This supports the idea that it is not as popular as the previous film. This could be due to them releasing information on the killer before the film was release removing the mystery and tension from the prommotion.
